The L.H. Field Family Foundation will provide grants UP TO $30,000 to organizations, groups, scholars, and educational institutions whose projects target an interpretation of life in Jackson County, Michigan in the twentieth century. Larger requests for special projects may be considered.
Natalie Field, as volunteer archivist at the Ella Sharp Museum, loved working with primary sources, and her research practices demonstrated the importance of ‘hands-on’ research practice as opposed to Internet research. The Foundation will respect her interest in primary source research practices and will support projects that utilize this style. Primary source research includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Oral history interviews, original documents, manuscripts, artifacts, microfilm, advertisements, articles, periodicals, sound recordings, movies, music, diaries, letters, institutional records, photographs, etc.
- Visits to cemeteries, museums, other archival depositories, and historic sites/buildings.
Projects must demonstrate the following:
- An interpretation of life in the twentieth century in Jackson County, Michigan
- Use of primary source research as the principle research practice
- Knowledge of a particular audience in which to share the completed project
- Preference will be given to projects which involve students

Grant applications must be submitted by May 1. Grants will be awarded by September 1.
